sunday social

It's been a pretty big weekend around here so I'm keeping it simple today.  A few announcements and Sunday Social before I'm off to BBQ with the fam for Labor Day! Hope you're doing some of the same today with your friends and family.

Updates:
1. I signed up for the Shiner Half Marathon on Nov. 23rd.  [CUE FREAK OUT!!!] Read about it here.
2. I completed the #AUGx22 challenge on SocialWorkout.com on the last day!
3. The #SEPTx22 challenge on SocialWorkout.com starts today. I signed up and you should too! Workout at least 22 times in September and log your workouts. Social, fun and healthy - what's better?

Sunday Social

1. What was your favorite trip/vacation/activity this summer?
I started nursing school before my teaching job ended so no trips for this girl! The week off in August between summer semester and fall semester was glorious though!

2. What was your favorite outfit look/clothing item of the summer?

It has to be a tie between a black strapless maxi and a chambray shirt with olive green shorts.  The maxi was so easy to change the look of with accessories so it really could go anywhere.

And who doesn't love a chambray shirt??

[I joined Polyvore yesterday and apparently these "sets" posted as their own blog posts yesterday... looks like I need to figure this thing out.  Ooops! #bloggerFAIL]

3. What is one thing you wish you'd gotten to do this summer?
I wish I had gotten an A in pharmacology and I wish I had stuck to my clean eating habits. Now I'm trying to work off the 5 lbs I gained this summer from stress eating and study snacks.

4. What was your favorite song of the summer?

Pancake ass and foam finger aside, it has got to be Miley Cyrus' "We Can't Stop".

5. What was your favorite movie/tv show of the summer?
During my week off, I signed for a free month of Netflix and compulsively watched the first season of Orange is the New Black. If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and get on it.  That show is SO. DAMN. GOOD.

How was your summer? Where did you go and what did you do?

moley moley moley

Anyone else think of Austin Powers when you read the title?
Mole!

I had big plans when I went to bed last night. And NONE of those plans happened today.

Let me back up for a bit. I visited a dermatologist a few months ago because I was having breakouts and couldn't get them under control. I was angry and frustrated that at 27 years old I had pimples. And, hello, I'm getting married next spring! The meds I was precribed at first did NOT agree with me. My skin was red, and super dry - I'm talking big flakes.  So I took the matter into my own hands and gave myself a ghetto at-home microderm abrasion followed by a few days of neosporin.

I DO NOT recommend doing this! It ended up working out but it also could have really scarred my skin. Once I recovered I continued with my meds and lots of moisturizer.

Fast forward to this Thursday...
I had an appointment with my dermatologist at 8am, so I set my alarm for 6:05 thinking I would get a nice, cool morning run in before heading off to my appointment.  Or, if I happened to sleep in (like I tend to do), I would go for a run at Rice University after my appointment.

If you live in Houston, you know how great the running trail is at Rice University AND how close it is to the med center.  Win win.

Well, you know that saying about making plans and God laughing? The old man upstairs had quite the gutbuster today.

I woke up at 7:28am for my appointment.  Which was at 8:00am. 25 miles away. In terrible traffic.

I threw on running clothes (still thinking things will work out, folks) and headed out the door.  No makeup? No problem - it's a derm appointment. She needs to see my skin.
My skin is much improved but there are still zits hiding there.  Don't worry, you'll see them.  And THANK BABY JESUS for eyelash extensions!
What I was not thinking about what the fact that I was also getting a mole removed. See that mole under my right eye? Yup, got that sucker cut right off.

I had no idea that a tiny little mole would sidetrack my day. But oh, how it did.

No more mole! And lashes all globbed up with neosporin.  Can you spot the zits still lingering around?
The local anesthetic made me feel so weird. It was a tiny procedure but it really took it out of me.  My whole eye area was completely numb, the neosporin was gooping up my eye (and lashes!), plus it was starting to swell and bruise.

So I headed home and napped. For 5 hours. And then went to the movies and got Chinese takeout. Because that's what you do when it looks like you got punched in face.

Great day for taking it easy and not having to wear makeup.  Not such a great day for working out and eating healthy.

But hey, there's always tomorrow. Right?

Any of you ever have those days where you can't accomplish anything?

Cait

red badge of courage

Not a whole lot to say because I'm slaving over pharmacology for the next 2 weeks.

BUT.

I have a little treat for you!
warning: lots of period talk

I stumbled upon this on Buzzfeed (a procrastinator's best friend) and guess this is the ad campaign for a monthly service dedicated to your lady bits.

Hello Flo.

Not sure I'll be subscribing to that one anytime soon but it makes for a hilarious commercial.

Any gems you've stumbled upon lately on the internets??

Love, Cait

picture post & SIBGSL

Not really feeling like writing much these days, with nursing school and some personal issues going on.  But I feel bad to have abandoned the internet for so long so I'm updating with some pics.  Hope everyone enjoyed their 4th of July holiday!

PS - SIBGSL. What, you can't decipher my acronyms?  Sorry I've been gone so long. SIBGSL. Duuuhhhh.

Bought some crazy pants and a great shirt.  Recognize the dressing room?  pants // shirt
Testing day outfit... cute but comfy.  shirt // necklace (accessory auctions, old) // pants (Forever 21, old) // flats

Another test day option AND trying to look profesh for group presentations.  Ignore the dog photobomb. dress (J.Crew factory, old)  // belt (Gap, old) // blazer (Banana Republic, old) // flats
Obsessed over these sweet little bracelets.  fox // sparkly bangles (J. Crew Factory, old)
If you haven't had the Wings N Waffles from Breakfast Klub, then you aren't living right.  Get to Houston.  Call me.  Let's grab brunch.
Ready for my momma's birthday brunch! (Ignore my ugly feet) hat (Loft Outlet, old) // necklace // maxi (Old Navy, not online) // sandals (Tommy Hilfiger, via Marshalls)
Happy Birthday to my beautiful Mom! (Bet you thought she was my sister, right?)
My moms LOVES glitter cards.
Detoxing from the Wings N Waffles while studying.
Movie night with my BTF.  Saw The Heat and it was HILARIOUS! Go this weekend.  But don't bring the kiddos.
Celebrating the 4th with my handsome nephew.

The kid moves too fast to get a decent picture with my iPhone, but you still get the idea.  Half-naked toddler + fedora = melting heart.

Drinking pineapple-tinis from Superman cups... doesn't get more American than that!

Hopefully I won't stay away so long again before the next post.  Enjoy your weekends!

xoxo,
Cait

PS - If you got this far, my good friend IRL has a GREAT giveaway going on for a few more days. Go check it out and enter - super easy!  grrfeisty's giveaway!

Finally Friday!!

Hey yall! Linking up for this belated post!

1. Sorry I've been silent the last week or so.  I know I say this a lot (probably because it's true) but nursing school is a lot of work. I'm not complaining - I'm excited to be in the program. But it's just taking the majority of my time right now and I'm okay with that.

2. If you're feeling a void in your life with my lack of posts, feel free to follow me on Instagram or Keek! Those are much easier to stay updated with and I usually post a few times a day.
(Don't hold me to that though. Now that I've said it, watch me be silent all weekend.  Juuust kidding - follow me!)

Keek: caitmregan

3. And speaking of instagram, I saw this video posted on facebook tonight and couldn't help but love it. If you're Insta-obsessed, you'll get it.

Pretty sure every single one of those pics shows up on my feed. Everyday.

4. I'm treating myself to some Shiner Light Blonde (if you're in Texas, go get some. Now. I'll drink while you go to the store wait.) and wrapping my nephew's birthday gift while blogging.  Talk about multitasking.  And procrastinating. Oh lawd.

5. Lastly, I'm doing the AdvoCare 24 Challenge again next week. I've been pathetic at working out/healthy food shopping the last two weeks so this is just the kick in the pants that I need. I'll be starting on Wednesday, June 20th and TRYING to post daily with my food/workouts.  If you're interested in it, there is still time to order and start with me! Just email me or click my link!

If you're not sure, stick around and see how it all works out for me. Then you can try it afterwards!

YFG

PS - showing off some super cute engagement photos next week so check back!

Random Things

Nursing school and working full-time is no joke.  I'm alive and well, just not spending much time blogging/blog reading these days.  But lucky for you, I've given my self a 15 minute break and rather than eat junk food I am taking this time to blog!

1) I'm joining Holly in the Ab 300 Challenge.  I stated earlier this month I'd be doing the May Meltdown with Ms. Michaels but that hasn't really panned out like I wanted.  If you're interested in the challenge, visit The Petit Athleat!

2) I got this awesome new workout tank but I'm VERY self conscious when I wear it around the neighborhood.  I took it out for a run last week and felt like all the moms were giving me the evil eye through their house windows.  But I also love it a lot so I don't think it will stop me from wearing it.

Super Cala Fraga Tank (clink on picture for link)

3) B and I had our engagement party this past weekend and it was wonderful!  My future SIL (who I love and am so blessed to have in my life) threw it for us as a chance for our families and wedding party to get together.

Future SIL could seriously BE my sister.  And I look pretty amazing in that Kiki La Rue dress :)

Most of the wedding party couldn't make it, but this girl did! Julie is a very good friend of mine who I met through Teach for America when I moved to Houston 5 years ago.  She's seen my relationship with B grow from mere flirtations to what it is today.

There were also shot girls at the bar/restaurant and we got my Grandmother to take quite a few tequila shots.  It was the sort of scene my grandfather would have loved and I felt his presence that night very much.  I'm actually getting weepy just sitting here and typing this (though that could be the lack of sleep + the abundance of Spark in my system) so Lord knows how I'll make it through my wedding.

4) Wrote thank you notes for the gifts we got yesterday on these gorgeous note cards I found at Tar-jay.  Holla!

1 // not online // not online

4) Got my Watermelon Spark in yesterday and it's pretty, pretty, pretty good (Larry David/Curb Your Enthusiasm reference? Anyone? Okay then, watch below.)

5) I told myself I'd reward myself for every A I got on a nursing school test.  Took our first one yesterday and got a solid B.  Not horrible, but I'm disappointed in myself and determined to get an A on the next one, which is tomorrow.

On that note, back to studying. Here's an #ootd from school on Tuesday - sweet test hair, Cait.
